IS A BROW LIFT RIGHT FOR YOU? HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Brow lifts can instantly restore your youthful appearance by removing forehead wrinkles and lifting drooping eyebrows. But is this the right procedure for you?

Here’s what you need to know.

Pros

  • Brow lifts can restore arches, reposition the brow and smooth away forehead wrinkles.
  • The procedure is quick (up to two hours), and you can go home the same day.
  • Most people are happy with the results (JAMA Plastic Surgery reports a 93% satisfaction rate).

Cons

  • Some patients need revision surgery.
  • Some patients experience scarring or hair loss at the incision sites.

What Happens During Brow Lift Surgery?

There are a few different techniques surgeons can use for a brow lift. The right one for you will depend on your goals and facial structure.

But regardless of which technique is used, brow lift surgery will accomplish the same goal: to lift the skin.

A few things to know about all brow lift surgeries:

  • The size and location of the incisions will depend on the procedure.
  • You will be given general or local anesthesia.
  • You can go home the same day, but someone else must take you home (you won’t be able to drive).

The most common types of brow lift techniques include:

Coronal

The classic brow lift procedure. This technique, which was developed in the 80s, uses just one incision line that runs from ear to ear, just above the hairline.

Here’s how it works:

  • The incision is made.
  • The skin is lifted.
  • Excess muscle and skin are trimmed.
  • The newly lifted skin is sutured to the scalp.

The coronal technique isn’t as popular as it once was, although it’s still used when patients want better eyebrow symmetry or to lengthen or shorten their foreheads.

Endoscopic

The endoscopic technique was developed in the 90s, and it’s still used today because it’s minimally invasive and has few complications

Here’s what you need to know about this procedure:

  • It requires 4-5 incisions that are 3/4″ long.
  • The incisions are made just behind the hairline to separate the skin.
  • A tiny camera is placed through the incisions.
  • A surgical instrument is inserted to lift the forehead tissue.
  • Staples, sutures or screws are used to hold the tissue in its new position.

Although minimally invasive, this technique can’t remove horizontal forehead wrinkles.

Browpexy

A new, minimally invasive technique that’s ideal for small lifts and is usually performed with an eyelid lift. It only lifts the brows slightly, so it’s not ideal for correcting serious brow sagging or drooping.

There are two ways to perform this procedure:

  • Internal: An incision is made in the crease of the eyelid and excess tissue is removed in the brow area to lift the skin.
  • External: An incision is made just above the brow, and excess tissue is removed.

With both types, sutures are used to hold the new brow position in place.

Temporal

The temporal technique is used to lift the outer brows only – not the entire brow. Larger incisions (about 1”) are made just above the temples, allowing the surgeon to lift the edges of the brows.

Although the results are subtler than other techniques, the recovery time is much quicker with a temporal brow lift.

How Long Does It Take to Recover from a Brow Lift?

The recovery period for brow lift sugary will depend on the technique used, but generally, it takes 10-14 days for the incision wounds to heal.

Is a Brow Lift Right for You?

A brow lift can do wonders for reducing wrinkles, getting rid of frown lines and restoring your brow’s youthful position. But like any other procedure, there are risks and benefits that must be considered.

A consultation with a surgeon can help determine whether a brow lift is the right choice for you and which technique will work best.
